Nita Luna Sponsored The Sub Deb Club |

Memorabilia of the late Nita Luna DeGrassi has been sent to the White Deer Land Museum by her nephew, Larry M. Hooper of Austin, Texas. He hoped that the material would be of interest to those who took part in the activities and recall pleasant memories. Nita Hooper, born and reared in Hale Center, married Hamilton M. Luna in 1927. He was a graduate of Plainview High School and attended Wayland Baptist College there. The Lunas came to Pampa about 1940 and lived at 1312 Charles. "Ham" Luna owned and operated H. M. Luna Oil Company and was the Phillips 66 jobber for many years. He was president of the Lions Club, active in the Country Club and was once named "Tall Texan." He died in 1964. During the 1950s and early 1960s, Nita Luna was sponsor/advisor for the Sigma Delta Sub Deb Club, an organization formed to develop refinement and social graces in a group of Pampa High School girls. Hooper wrote that his aunt had a special fondness for all of these girls and was very proud of each of them and their progress. Nita Luna married Hollis DeCrassu in 1970 and moved to Amarillo where she died on May 13, 2000.
